KEEP THAT PEANUT BUTTER COMING!

Before I was married, I lived as a bachelor for a few years. While I did cook every once in a while (many of the recipes coming from a microwave cookbook which I highly recommend). Most of my meals were either leftovers from church fellowship meals, fast food, boxed meals, or sandwiches (which I actually got pretty creative with). One of my favorite sandwiches was and still is the classic Peanut butter and jelly. My mouth waters just thinking about a nice tall glass of milk with this simple yet wonderful medley of tastes.
If I have any control of my sandwich, there are two things that I am particular about. 1). I like my peanut butter chunky and 2). I like a lot of peanut butter and jelly. The picture you see on this post might look good to you, but I see a great deficiency of both peanut butter and jelly. There are many recipes that require strict adherence to the portions despite your desire to add more of your favorite ingredient, but not the PB and J. You can slather on as much as those wonderful sticky concoctions as your heart desires and still have a good, yet messy, sandwich.
There's a good word in the Bible that makes me think of my PB and J spreading method, lavish. I John 3:1 says "How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!" One of the words sometimes translated lavish is the Greek word perisseuo, which Strong's Greek Dictionary defines as "to super abound." Ephesians 1:7-8 says "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding." I think this is so cool, God does not hold back when giving us love and grace, but instead he super abounds when he bestows it on us. God puts as much as we need on the PBandJ sandwich that is His blessings to us, and then just keeps on going.
So the next time you make yourself a PB and J, or maybe a fluffernutter, or anything else that allows for personal preferences regarding portions. Think of the fact that God goes above and beyond when serving up His blessings to us.

How do you like your peanut butter?

Introduction

If you are a big fan of CSI Miami star David Carusso, but don't know how to spell his last name, you might have stumbled upon this blog. Well, this is not a site about Horatio Caine, so keep Googling my friend.
Rather than taking up space on my first post talking about myself, you can read more about me here. As a pastor and Bible teacher, I am all about object lessons for God's Word the Bible. I am always thinking of how a plot of a movie, a news story, a personal experience, or something else out of life can be used to communicate truth. And lately as I have grown more interested in the culinary sciences, I have found myself thinking up connections between the kitchen and God's Word, thus the Kerusso part of the title. For those of you who are still confused as to why I use that word, let me explain. Kerusso is a Greek word meaning "I say" or "I proclaim" and it is used regularly in the Bible for the act of preaching. So this is a blog about proclaiming God's Word using lessons learned from the kitchen.
The design is likely to change. In the past, I have focused on the design first, only to get bored and frustrated with the process, and eventually leaving an empty blog and the ideas I once had behind. This time I thought I would start posting and when I had time worry about how it looked.
